Renting a car while traveling?
Travel normally isn't over when your plane lands, or even once you get to the hotel. With so much to see and do, travelers often need to rent a car. The trip is already protected with travel insurance, but did you know you can upgrade many Travelex plans to include coverage for your rental car?
Rental car damage upgrade
A car accident while away can ruin a trip - and cost a fortune to pay off. With the rental car damage upgrade, travelers can be protected from unforeseen costs of damages or loss due to:
- Accidental
- Collision
- Vandalism
- Windstorm
- Fire
- Hail
- Flood
- Stolen car while in your possession and not recovered
You can be reimbursed the cost of repairs and rental car charges while the vehicle is being repaired, or the actual cash value of the car, up to the maximum covered amount of $50,000 in excess of a deductible of $100.
Coverage is provided as long as the traveler is a licensed driver, is listed on the rental agreement, and is legally and financially responsible for the damages. This coverage is primary to other forms of insurance or indemnity.
Submitting a car rental claim
Should a loss or vandalism occur, remember to take these steps as quickly as possible:
- Take all reasonable, necessary steps to protect the vehicle and prevent further damage to it
- Report the loss to the local authorities and rental car company as soon as possible
- Collect all pertinent information from any other parties involved with the accident such as names, addresses, insurance information and driver's license numbers
- Send all documentation to Travelex’s claims department for reimbursement consideration (rental agreement, policy report, damage estimate and receipts)
Rental car coverage is not available in Costa Rica, Ireland, Jamaica and Mexico.
